Every musician registering on Gigstarter is required to have several tracks uploaded. The number of them differs from the type of formation. For solo, duo, and band it is mandatory to have at least 3 tracks, however, for the DJ two tracks are enough.
There are several aspects to keep in mind while uploading new tracks. Firstly, the uploaded file should be in MP3 format with a size of max 100 MB. Moreover, it is important to check whether the name of the file does not contain any special characters (for example é, è, â, ñ, ü, ç and any other combinations).
Another aspect to consider while uploading is copyrights. Every country has its organizations dealing with these issues. The name of the company in Ireland is MCPS-PRS. The right recorded by MCPS-PRS Alliance or sister organizations include remixes; own work registered by the organization, music covers, or interpretations of public work. While the rights not managed by MCPS-PRS are your own compositions (textual and musical) from which the rights are in your personal management. It is important to select the right option while uploading to avoid any misunderstandings and issues.
If all these requirements are followed but the track still does not work, please send an email to info@gigstarter.nl and the team will guide you in the process.
Artists can use 'tags' on Gigstarter to improve their chances of being found by bookers. Tags are search terms that are relevant to your performance. They are added through your Gigstarter dashboard. For example: when there's a saxophone player in your band, you can add the term 'saxophone' to your act. Think about what search terms correspond to your live performance. You don't have to use the same terms that refer to sounds or genres, this tag function provides you with additional creative space to effectively describe your service, which the search engine uses to help bookers to find their perfect match.
If you are a DJ and haven't been able to record any original music yet, don't worry. You can still appear on our website by uploading the remixes you've been working on. Be aware of certain copyright considerations that need to be made (read in the next section).
If you are in any other formation (solo, duo, band), unfortunately, the following cannot be applied. However, here's a small tip: to give a booker an impression of your music, recording on the phone will be sufficient enough! Just use an online tool to retrieve an audio from a video recording and submit it to our platform in a right format.
To determine how high you end up on the search results, we use the Gigstarter ranking. This ranking is fixed by an optimised algorithm. There are two important factors that have a big influence on your ranking; 1) the average grade from your reviews and 2) the time that has passed since your last review.
To end up higher on the search results, you'll have to get reviews regularly. Send out confirmations to your bookers that have contacted you through Gigstarter. After a confirmed booking, a booker automatically receives a review-request.
To give your ranking a boost, you can also consider to sign up for a Gigstarter PRO membership. As a PRO member, you can ask three previous bookers to write a review about you, even if these bookings weren't through Gigstarter.
Using the Review feature is extremely important on our platform. To end up higher on the search results, you'll have to get reviews regularly from both booking requests and calls (if you have a PRO membership). The main reason for that lies in the way our system works. There are two important factors that have a big influence on your ranking: 1) the average grade from your reviews and 2) the time that has passed since your last review. If you wish to be at the top of the first page, keep that in mind for the next gig! Reviews cannot be placed without a booking confirmation
You can place the Gigstarter widget on your website. This will increase the chance of getting bookings and will also make it easier to find you on the internet to get the best impression of you as a performer. The widget appears as a ‘Book me’ button that links your website to the Gigstarter profile. If it is not updated in your artist dashboard, please do not hesitate to reach out to us and the team will activate it for you.
For every booking made through Gigstarter, it is possible to create events and put them on your profile. People who visit your profile can immediately see where you will perform. Interested bookers, who are considering you as a possible match for their demands can then attend your performances and get a better idea of you and your music. As a PRO member you also get the opportunity to highlight your gigs on the homepage agenda.
Besides the free account on Gigstarter, we also offer the PRO artist membership. As a PRO artist, you get a lot more out of Gigstarter such as responding to calls, for example. Besides this, you are featured in the agenda on the homepage and it's possible to add reviews from bookers outside of Gigstarter to your profile. PRO + membership on the other hand allows you to create unlimited profiles and be visible across all our active countries.
